Details on the yarn bases are shown below:

Lace Weight Yarn

100% Merino, Fine Lace weight, 1200m in 100g

A Very fine lace weight Merino yarn. constructed with two plies. Takes the dye nicely.

100% Mulberry silk, Lace Weight, 800m in 100g

Very silky fine plied yarn ideal for items that require drape. This yarn has no stretch so it is ideal for shawls (do not require any stretch). The silk takes on a more muted and very shiny version of the colourways.

74% Baby Suri Alpaca, 26% Mulberry Silk, 300m in 50g

Very fluffy lace weight yarn. Ideal to knit held double with a Merino 4ply to create a DK weight yarn with flufy texture. Takes the dye well but does not show speckles very well. 3 ply construction.

Fingering / 4ply weight Yarn

75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon, 425m in 100g

Plied yarn, ideal for garments and sock knitting due to a soft feel and nylon content for durability. Takes the dyes really well. Available in 100g, 50g and 20g mini skeins.

75% Superwash Merino 20% Nylon 5% Stellina, 400m in 100g

High twist plied yarn ideal for garments and sock knitting due to a soft feel and nylon content for durability. Takes the dyes really well. Available in 100g and 20g mini skeins.

80% Superwash Blue faced leicester 20% Nylon, 365m in 100g

High twist plied yarn ideal for garments and sock knitting nylon content for durability. This BFL base is softer than most BFL yarn and comes up quite thick for fingering weight yarn. I tend to use 56 or 60 stitches for a sock with this yarn rather then 60 or 64 I use with my merino base (2.5mm needles). Takes the dyes really well, although colours appear slightly more muted than on the merino bases due to the matt nature of the fibre. Only available as 100g skeins and sock sets.

100% Superwash Merino singles, 366m in 100g

Unplied yarn ideal for shawl knitting or items that will not endure lots of wear as the unplied yarn will pill more easily than plied yarn. The singles yarn drapes well and is soft in texture due to the lack of plying. Takes the dyes really well.

80% Superwash Merino 10% Cashmere 10% Nylon, 400m in 100g

This plied yarn is a luxurious blend of Cashmere and merino. The Nylon content increases the durability of the yarn. This yarn is very plump for a fingering / 4 ply yarn and is very soft and lofty. Takes the dyes really well, although colours appear slightly more muted than on the merino bases.

70% Baby Alpaca 20% Silk and 10% Cashmere, 400m in 100g

This plied yarn is a luxurious blend of Baby Alpaca, Silk and Cashmere. Ideal for shawls and projects that require drape. Takes the dyes really well, although colours appear slightly more muted than on the merino bases. 3 ply construction.

85% Superwash Merino 15% Donegal Nep, 400m in 100g

This plied yarn has little neps of Donegal fibre that add texture and interest to your finished garment. The lack of nylon makes it less durable than some of my other yarns. Available in selected colourways.

84% Superwash Merino 16% Cotton and acrylic Nep, 425m in 100g

This plied yarn has little neps of cotton and acrylic fibre that add texture and interest to your finished garment. The lack of nylon makes it less durable than some of my other yarns. Available in selected colourways.

50% Camel and 50% Silk, 400m in 100g

This plied yarn is a luxurious blend of Camel and silk. It is the silkiest of my bases. It is idea for shawl knitting. Available in selected colourways only due to the deeper tones of the natural yarn.

60% Merino, 20% Yak and 20% Silk, 366m in 100g

This plied yarn is a luxurious blend of Merino, Yak and Silk. It is idea for Garment, sock and shawl knitting. Available in selected colourways only due to the deeper tones of the natural yarn. Also available in DK weight yarn.

100% Highland Wool NSW (Non Superwash), 420m in 100g

This plied yarn (4 ply construction, gives a nice balanced knit so cables will pop) is a non-superwash wool made from 27 micron Peruvian highland wool. The yarn takes the dye up slowly meaning that the colours blend more giving a more subtle effect. Tonals will appear more evenly dyed. Speckling will be a bit less punctate. So each particle of dye will give a larger dyed area compared to other bases. I deal for cables and colour work. But more care needles to be taken while washing.

Double Knit weight yarn

Hand dyed Yarn Care

I recommend hand washing and drying flat to prevent felting, stretching and extend the lifespan of  your items. Although professional acid dyes have been used to create these yarns. It is best to wash them separately from other lighter colours, especially for the first wash.

Yarn is sold in a hank, you will need to wind it into a ball or cake before you can knit or crochet with it. If you don’t have winding equipment I am more than happy to cake it for you, please leave me a note with your order or drop me an email on ellie@crafthousemagic.co.uk.

Please be aware that different batches of this yarn may be slightly different.
